Animal Ethics

Animal ethics is a fascinating branch of applied ethics, which is concerned with how human beings should treat animals. This course covers approaches to animal ethics (e.g. human supremacy, and animal liberation); issues in animal ethics (e.g. using animals for food, medicine and science, and sport); the ideas of one key thinker in the area, Peter Singer; and the application of normative ethical theories (e.g. natural law, situation ethics, and virtue ethics) to issues in animal ethics. This course is designed for anyone interested in animal ethics; however, it's specifically linked to specification content for the following qualifications.
