John Robinson on Situation Ethics

A Level: Edexcel

A detailed investigation in John Robinson's key ideas on situation ethics, including what they are, how they work, and why they're important. This lesson provides a brief biography of John Robinson and covers the text of Honest to God. This includes discussion of the nature of God, the nature of Jesus, and how the idea of God as love and Jesus as its human embodiment provides the basis for situation ethics, which is explored with reference to specific Biblical examples.

GTRS C SE JROSE Honest to God (3)

Honest to God really is a revolutionary read. If you assume all Christians believe in the existence of an all-powerful, bearded man beyond the universe, think again. The fiftieth-anniversary edition of John Robinson's iconoclastic book is available here and, as several commentators note on the jacket, it's as relevant now as it ever had been. This doesn't mean that it's always an easy read; the process of redefining God and Jesus that makes up the bulk of the book is pretty challenging. Nevertheless, for anyone looking to really understand situation ethics and its Christian foundations, this is a must read.
